OPTISPARK PRICE???
I was told by my mech that they cost around $480 and I just called several auto stores and no one gave me a price over $200.
Am I being lyed to or do you think he was giving me a price for ACDelco?

$200 at an auto store is either just the cap/rotor kit, or it's the wrong thing. Jeff Kopp can get you the whole thing for a little over $300.

The opti it self you can get rebuit for around 150-170. Brand new is like 350 from the dealer. Remember, you might want to replace the cap and rotor and these two itmes dont come with a new or rebuilt opti. I just finished mine and spent 300 for all using a rebuilt 94 opti and a 95 cap kit to do the vacuum upgrade.

Well, if my website was up I could show you some good pictures...sigh. The optispark in my opinion is the complete unit (cap and all). It is all bolted together as one unit.
fasteddez stated that a new Optispark doesn't come with the cap and rotor?? Mine did. I do agree with everyone else, the $200 or below price is probably just the rebuild kit (cap and rotor). If you aren't throwing any codes, you can probably get away with just the cap and rotor, but personally I would replace the complete unit, and your water pump also if you have high mileage.

Re: OPTISPARK PRICE??? (bwagner)
Call Jeff Kopp from Superior Chevrolet. The early style Opti comes complete from GM with cap and rotor for in the low 300's. Go new. Buying a $150 "rebuilt" opti base and a new aftermarket cap and rotor for $150 will set you back the same amount and it'll be "way" inferior. The opti bases are nothing more than hand picked used units. Add $17 worth of seam sealing and GM purge according to C4 Tech Tips, so you don't have to keep throwing Opti's at the car every 4 years.

The price for new Delco opti's for the 95-96 are $150 at Mid America. I'm not sure why the price dropped so much about 6 months ago for the newer style? FrankLT4CE

If you decide to do it yourself, her is a link to a "how to", including the vent upgrade.

Re: OPTISPARK PRICE??? (bwagner)
I know the price at autozone is $171 for the cap and rotor ans $159 for the opti. I found a place here in Indy that has a new AC unit (cap, rotor and opti as a unit) for $362. The extra $30 seems well worth the peice of mind for a new unit as opposed to a rebuilt from the zone
good luck

Re: OPTISPARK PRICE??? (bwagner)
I just bought a new complete AC/Delco Opti for a 94 for $270 from
SamSmith@fairwaychevy.com (1-800-395-1440 ask for Sam Smith). Shipping extra ($4.50 from Las Vegas to San Diego). (GM retail price is something like $640.)
All other prices for less were for the base only or cap and rotor only.
Installed 3 weeks ago and runs smooth as glass :) .
No matter which one you buy, remember to take it apart and reseal with a good hi-temp RTV.

Re: OPTISPARK PRICE??? (Glock'94)
Back when I had my 94 Z28, my Optispark went out way early (14K miles). It was replaced under warranty, and the warranty claim was close to $1200. And that was in 95 if I remember correctly.

http://www.Worldparts.com :yesnod:
Everytime I have tried World Parts, I end up with a list of dealers selling the part at the retail price, and not a dealer wholesale price (ie. $600 vs $300'ish for a optispark).
Is it OK to tell where we get our parts, if it's not a supporting vendor? If so, I have what I think is a better place. Sorry, not sure what the policy on forum is regarding this.

Not difficult, certainly not worth paying a grand to your local pusher. I did a step-by-step for someone else, I'll email you the file.
