Default Knock sensor question

1989 L98

Does the knock sensor or its circuit have any effect on engine at idle?

In the 89 $6E bins that I've checked, knock (retard) is disabled below 2 mph or below 650 rpm auto/850 rpm manual.

So a stationary vehicle at idle should not be affected by the knock sensor.

Idle is probably gonna move around a very small amount on a properly functioning car. You get into 200 RPMs or greater than you are looking at vacuum leaks, maybe leaking secondary ignition system, etc.

It's less then 200 rpms just re-read FSM and it states below 900 rpms, knock sensor doesn't effect it.

I'm trying to figure a way to raise my idle about 75 to 100 rpms at idle in gear without burning chip which I don't have equipment or knowledge to do myself. I have done everything I know and what others have told me to try to get rid of miss at idle. When I first stop at light, idle seems fine then drops lower causing rough idle. NO vacuum leaks. I'm starting to think broken valve spring

The idle speed is controlled by the ECM, so the only way to change it is to program a chip.

I suggest a minimum idle adjustment:

A miss is usually an ignition problem. Check your wires in a dark garage for arcing.

You may want to try cleaning your IAC and the air channels it uses.....This could cause a fluctuating idle..This should be done every few years anyway as preventive maintainance......WW

How do you tell if a knock sensor is working properly, aside from getting a new one or running software on a laptop?

Hook up a timing light ,see where your timing is set, take a wrench or hammer and bang on you headers or exhaust manifold and you will see your timing retard......This is how I check mine, but instead of a timing light I use a scanner to watch the timing retard...WW
