92 and later vettes need plug replacement at 100,000 miles according to the manual. My question is do the plugs really last that long? can they fail prematurely?
92 and later vettes really last that long. But it is contingent upon how the motor has been run and the quality of all the components.
Ditto on changing the wires while you are at it. Also make sure and use antiseize on the threads and di-electric silicon on the wire boots. By all means be careful when removing the old ones, you don't want to strip any threads. If one won't budge, leave it sit with some penetrating oil applied. Do that a couple times a day for several days if necessary.
Also make sure and read a lot of the posts of what to remove to get to those PITA plugs.
