I'm reaching my limits with my 92. I detail it later the thousands I've dumped into it already. On too today's issue. Battery light came on 40 days ago, I checked everything out, it looked like alternator took a crap, only outputting 12v. I replaced it with a new ac Delco unit. Problem went away, I drive it almost everyday. Today, hot day, bam battery light turns on, voltage reads 12v . Looks just like the problem I just fixed. Could it be my new alternator failed? Maybe I have a short that's jacking up alternator?

Have a competent shop check the entire electrical, battery, alternator etc with everything still in the car. It can be done with a carbon-pile load tester in the car by experienced people. You could remove battery and drop it at a shop, have it charged and load tested separately of course and you could remove the alternator and have that done separately but you'll need to check cables, connections. I don't believe you can condemn the alternator you just bought quite yet. Could it be? Certainly .. but depending on how you drive, length of the drive an alternator can check good or marginal and create some issues.
Check your install could maybe be the first thing to do. Something left undone? Maybe.
it could be the voltage regulator in the alternator. there very easy to change. you don't even have to remove the pulley. they go bad as I had a new one last @ 2 months. replaced free under warranty. you can get it at autozone, oreillys or any parts store. there @ $25.00 if I remember correctly. a lot cheaper than an alternator. every thing in the alt. is easy to change. don't be intimidated by it. you just have to figure out what's bad

If he's go a 40 day old alternator there's no need in him doing a thing IF it's the alternator that's failed. It only needs to be substantiated and depending upon the source maybe not even substantiated BUT then if it's NOT an alternator failure he's still got issues in another 40 - 60 days. Check the entire charging system correctly and be done with the diagnostics.
He first needs to check his work if he's the one that did the alternator replacement, if he didn't do the install I'd say at 40 days it's maybe on the shop to check it out.
It's entirely possible it wasn't an alternator problem to start with, the new one just charged better until stressed to the point of failure again.
I installed the alternator. Just tested the output I get 11.5v. I purchased it through Amazon and was able to have a free replacement sent out. I'm going to run through shop manual this weekend to see if everything else checks out.
Its funny I was just thinking the other day how good it was running, lol.
Belle Isle with the Renaissance Center in the background.
Sad to see the Motor City with so many burned out, crumbling and abandoned houses and buildings.
