 yesterday I hit a dip in the road at about 90MPH and the car took a pretty good wallop but I dont think any thing but the front air dam hit the asphalt, anyway today I noticed the rear leaning a couple of inches to the passenger side. I jacked up the rear and lo and behold the rear mono leaf is craked and splintered on that side. Anybody ever hear or have that happen? Any suggestions on a replacement....... upgrade, new, used? :cry
I had to replace mine about 6 months ago. I don't think it happened all at once though in my case. I got the replacement from Ecklers. Also did a new set of KYB's at the same time.
I had this happen on mine about 3 years ago. I replaced it with a stock piece from a dealer. Not a big deal to replace, but if you plan to do it yourself have a couple extra jacks handy, as well as a spare set of hands. There are some aftermarket companies that make the springs, they may be cheaper than OEM (check Mid America or Ecklers)...but it's not something I want to have happen again so I went OEM
Mine was broken last Sept. when a SUV ran into the rear of my Vette.
Try Corvette Express in Vacaville, they had one that was the same as the one that was on the rear of my vette in stock.
Took them about 1/2 hour to change it.

Just replaced my rear monospring with one from Vette Brakes in Florida because my rear spring delaminated. It's not so unusual for this to happen. The cost for the VBP spring is about the same as stock (approx. $300). You might want to consider renewing the outboard mounting bolts and bushings while you're at it.
It isn't a tough job. Jack up the rear end and put it on jackstands. Use a floor jack to relieve the spring pressure on the original spring, unbolt it (obviously do both sides). once the outboards are free, unbolt if from the center. To be able to slide it off to the side and remove it from the vehicle you'll need to remove the rear wheels.
The replace is just reversed, only if you use the VetteBrakes spring you get rid of all the shims used on the stock spring, and bolt the new spring into place using the original bolts attaching the center of the spring to the carrier. Then use the floor jack to raise the new springs until you can re-bolt the outboards. Essentially you're done. Wheels back on, check and adjust your vehicle height by torquing the outboard bolts.
I'm very satisfied with the performance of the spring. If my front delaminates, I'd go with a VBP replacement in a heartbeat. :yesnod:
I would also recommend that you change the rubber bushings when you change the spring. Mine were quite deteriorated when I changed my spring out. Also, be aware that the "Sport" rear spring from vette brakes is way too stifgf unless you have a really stiff aftermarket front spring.
I just replaced mine with one from ecklers, 299.00 GM wanted 580.00 I noticed that the replacement spring is alot stiffer than oe, peace of cake to install though. I went with 10in. bolts to build in some adjustment.
Yeah, I should have mentioned that VBP sells monosprings with different ratings. I went with their equivalent to stock - not the "sport" or "extreme" versions. And I did use the 10" bolts with poly bushings. They offer them in rubber or poly.
Yes, I did rebuilt the rear of the Vette after the accident with the SUV.
Cost started at about $4,000 and ended at about $8,000 when all was said and done.
Got new Corsa exhaust instead of the stock system, new spring, new gas tank and fuel pump, new rear bumper and alum. crash bar, (biggest cost) and a lot of new little parts. Also got it painted.
I got it fixed by my insurance co. and then they billed the other insurance for the costs. When the other insurance found out how much it costs, they said they should of totaled it. Too late at that point. No salvage title.
Runs great and no problems with any of the reapairs or parts put on. I have a lot of pic's of it apart also.
