I recently purchased my first Corvette and it is a 1991 C4 convertible. I am a little confused about what I actually have. I have confirmed that the numbers all match and ordered the build sheet and window sticker from the Corvette Museum. The VIN number and the build sheet all call for a L98 engine but there is a plaque inside the drivers door that says it is an LT1 (picture attached). I purchased the car from a private owner who claims this car was built for a retiring GM executive. I have found no documentation to confirm that.
Any suggestions as to how I might find more information on this car?
Thank you
The VIN and the build sheet wouldn't lie and it could be confirmed with as simple as a snapshot of the engine. Where is the distributor? Rear of the engine behind the plenum or is it on the front of the engine behind the water pump? There's numerous other ways but I'd say the easiest "tell all" would be distributor location!
Is the tire placard and certification label still on the door also? If there's no tire placard or certification label maybe the one you see was done intentionally to cover the "blank spot" when a repair/repaint was done.

Why would anyone "steal" something that's so easily purchased across the counter? Makes no sense.

The plaque isn't on the door, it is on the drivers rear panel inside the door well. In response to you initial question the distributor is at the rear of the engine.

Distributor on the rear should be l98, lt1 has it on front...

It was not when that car was built. I worked for gm and that would have been a pilot car part. They are all locked up and a big no no. If it was put on after he owned it would be fine.
