Default 1986 Won't Start! help!

when i turn the key, i get P Brake and Anti Lock lights... this isn't the first time we've had this problem.... we had it happen one day, not use the car, then the next day it started and worked just fine...

anyone know whats going on?

VATS probably, make sure the key isnt dirty. Mine did the same thing the other day.

i don't recall any clicks this time... but i wasn't paying a huge deal of attention.... but it WAS clicking last time... brb, i'll go see if it clicks.

WHAT THE kiss!!! it started!! my key wasn't dirty, but i wiped off anything that was on it if there was with my fingers... and it started first try! thanks... lol weird!

If the VATS does bite you, you have to wait 10 minutes to start it again.

that could be it Scorp, cuz last time i tried, then 2 minutes later i got my dad to come check it out... and he didn't get it either (and he is a wizz with cars) he said we'd check it out later that night... sure enough, it worked... well today i guess the Vatz bit me, lol! but in the End i won! :p:

Why would you want to disable VATS? You just make it easier for your 86 to be stolen. Of course its a pain to not have the car start, but you don't epoxy a flashlight on your hood when one of your headlights burns out do you? First determine if it is VATS. When it won't crank, find the 2 pin plug under the carpet by the steering column on the floor and unplug it and measure the resistance on the 2 wires from the steering column with the key in the ign. It should be the same as the pellet. If not, then you have worn contacts in the ign sw that make with the pellet. You can bypass VATS until you can get a new ign sw installed by clipping a resistor the same value as your pellet onto the 2 wires going over to the passenger side (VATS module). My 87 is on its third ign sw for VATS contacts. I personally know someone that came out to their C4 after work and found the column busted but the car didn't move an inch. Yes, your C4 can still be stolen, but 99% of thefts are done by bashing the column and jumping the ign. Keep it original!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
