I am about to put new u joints in my 1995 automatic coupe and would like to get Spicers. The aluminum shaft, non-corrosion coated u joints are the part number 5-3615x, but they are about $60 a piece. The aluminum shaft, non-coated u joints are the part number 5-1350x.
I've read countless threads on u joint part numbers, but I haven't really seen too much about if the non-corrosion coating is absolutely necessary. I live in Alabama and drive my car year round, but we very rarely see snow in the winter, so is the coating necessary or will I be fine with the 5-1350x?
The coated joints are the way to go. You will have a galvanic corrosion reaction with a non-coated joint. If your going to use the non-coated joint then use anti-seize on the outside of the caps.
I am sure you have heard multiple stories here about bolts breaking off in the aluminum...most often intake manifolds. This is the galvanic corrosion between the steel bolt and the aluminum.
