Default Rear differential

Can someone tell me how difficult it is to change the gear carrier in my 91. In thinking of going to 3:07 to give it a little more performance. Did the trans myself with no lift or trans. Jack. Very capable mechanic but never did. C4 rear. Thanks guys.

If it's a Dana36 why not find a used one.
If you handled a trans swap you should be able to swap out the diff. Setting up a set of gears requires much more experience.

No I don't want to change the gears only In planning on a used carrier. I just wanted to know how difficult it is to just change the carrier. Thanks again.

It is not very difficult to change the carrier. The biggest pita is getting the rear back in. An extra set of hands are nice. Also you want to update your u-joints too since all is disconnected. If you have a FSM, you will have all you need as far as the procedure. The 3.07 is a very nice upgrade.

It's not that difficult in swapping rears.

I did mine on jack stands in the driveway.

the most difficult part is unbolting the C beam from the Diff.
Those 2 bolts on top of the C beam require a wrench on them to they don't spin with you unbolt from the bottom.

1st picture is a carrier.
2nd picture is a differential housing. It not called a carrier.
