Filing replacement AC Compressor with oil- again?
1984 C60 AC System:
steps undertaken:
-flushed A/C System with flush solution
-replaced Orifice tube
-replaced accumulator (added 2oz oil to new accumulator)
-added 2 oz same PAG150 to lines
-replaced AC Compressor and added 4oz same PAG150 to Suction side of new compressor
-Pulled Vacuum, it held - then added refrigerant- sealing issues arose and had problem with leaking 134 on back of compressor
X-new compressor had a fittment issue; SO pulled out compressor and replacing it with a REMAN exact fit compressor
-When draining new compressor of PAG Oil only about 1/2oz came out! (the AC Compressor the one that I pulled off the car)
SO- My question is:
How much PAG 150 oil do I add to the REMAN Compressor I am about to install?
My understanding is that the system calls for 8oz, and if my calculations are correct there are about 7.5oz in the system now. BUT a new compressor will need some oil to lube it on start up.
BUT I don't want to overload the system with oil either....
I believe I've seen some just jump the clutch 10/12 times before a "let run". I've seen that referred to as "burnishing" the clutch also. If it's not on the car yet you could lock in vice, use spanner. Add sufficient to prime/lube then drain and add the amount you feel it's short.
If it's dry what does the remanufacturer/reseller mention in the install? They're the people that are responsible for the warranty maybe. Ask them.
I would think that most come filled and you might need to actually drain some/all and add what you feel you need.

On install of the new Compressor it was filled with 4oz oil in suction port as per directions, left face down for an hour to let oil soak all way into clutch area, then turned sideways and rotated by hand 20 times. Then installed on car, clutch was 'burnished' by pulsing system. THEN filled with R134 and jumped to force add to system bypassing pressure switches.
But the issue is when this compressor was taken off and drained very little oil has come back out. It all appears to have been cycled into the system when the initial 134 charge was placed into the system.
So the issue is, do you add more than the recommended 8oz to the system in order to oil up the new AC Compressor which is being installed?
