i have deep scratches in my drivers side glass that cannot be polished out. How much work is it to replace the glass on my 95? Is it tough to adjust once the new glass is in? I suppose i need a workshop manual to do this. My cheapo Haynes doesnt cover this.
I have just fitted a second hand glass to my pass door.
Get a good second hand piece with the mounting studs already in place. Remove your door panel and unbolt the glass from the runner frame, insert your replacement glass and nip up the nuts on the marks left by your original window. CAREFULLY shut the door and move the window until it fits the appiture correctly and bolt up tight. Oh dont forget to remove the roller stop at the front end of the window inline with the studs you will need a long allen key. I used a pair of mole grips on the large washer at the back or you can try the special tool option.
Whats the special tool to hold the washer on the roller stop?I couldnt grip it with anything and the roller stop would just spin in place.I was changing a window motor ribbon and wanted to take the glass out of the door but couldnt get the front roller stop off,so I carefully set the glass down inside the door.Didnt know there may be a special tool and Ive never heard of mole grips. If theyre the same as Vise grips,I tried it on mine and had no luck.
Thanks for any info for future reference.
:)
I had the same problem with my 95. I had the windows replaced. Be sure to replace the weather stripping along the top edge of the doors. Its the metal tabs hold it in place that is scraching the glass.
