Noob question. Crack or normal?

Since it is on both sides of the part in exactly the same spot. I would say it is normal. Is this a solid piece of metal...or multiple layers? It also looks like the two parts have been spot welded.

Thanks, was outside in the middle of replacing some parts in a tune up and just wanted to be sure before putting it all back together.
It's the coil sides that look like 'layers' on top of one another.

I ain't real sure but aren't there primary and secondary windings in an ignition coil and maybe just maybe the halves are differently polarized? It seems like the only rational assumption but I certainly ain't sure.
I'm sure all HEI coil 'n cap coils are constructed similarly.
