WHAT CAM TO USE
I have an 89 with the normal mods. I want a healthy cam for mostly sound but I don't want to kill performance. It has dual pipes with no cats now so it sounds good but I want the idling lion.What cam and rockers Or any other suggestions would be welcome. :confused:

With no cats just add full length headers and good mufflers for a "nasty" note.
You've got mail on some cam choices with HP in mind but a lopy cam will kill power, especially on a TPI system.

The stock top end can't handle a lopey cam, not enough breathing room.
I have about a .500 in .495 out 214 in 220 out cam, and it gurgles nicely, but my mostly stock top end dies trying to feed it.

Just put in something with a tighter lobe center than normal. Maybe 210 218 @ .050 108 LSA. Put the intake on a 106 centerline.
This should be an interesting motor. Desktop dyno predicts peak torque of 458 @ 2000 rpm :confused:. Peak hp of 311 at 4000. Power goes off a cliff after that. Probably intake related.
