Not sure what year car your talking about. I never heard of anyone throwing a code. I disconnected at the relay near the battery, no code.

If it was disconnected at the tranny, I believe there is another cable near it that can throw a code. He might of disconnected the wrong thing. Is his CAGS really disabled?

On a '96 or newer 'vette, it will set a code if you just unhook the harness. That's when they started with OBD2 which monitors pretty much every drivetrain-related part to ensure it's working properly. It's easy to resolve by getting a bypass harness. It has a small resistor in it to make the computer think it's still connected.

His car is a '96 and he disconnected a cable located high on the drivers side of the trans. Knowing him, he unhooked the wrong one. Where exactly is the relay that you disconnected? :seeya

There are three plugs on the ZF6 - backup light, speed sensor, and CAGS. The CAGS is on the driver's side in the front (if the backup lights or speedometer aren't working, you know he got the wrong one :D ). the wire goes to a round metal case in the side of the trans (that's the CAGS solenoid). He probably disconnected the right one, but he'll have to buy the CAGS disable plug (it just plugs in to the harness that he unplugged). That way the resistor in the plug will fix the SES light (you may need to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to reset the computer). Just make sure he gets one specifically for a '96 because the earlier ones don't have the resistor. It should only cost $10-$20 from Mid America, Corvette Central, etc.

Zad,
There are only 2 connectors on the ZF. One is high on the left front - leave this connected.

The other is on the same side but halfway back on the trans, next to a large solenoid. This is the CAGS solenoid. Since his car IS a '96, like was prviously posted it is OBD2, and needs to have the bypass on it. Buy them from Mid America, Ecklers etc. It has the resistor in it, and keeps both ends of the connector clean and free from corrosion.

Once the bypass is installed the code should clear.

That's not completely true. There are more than a few 96's on the forum that have disco'd the cags without setting the set engine light. I disco'd mine at the trans, wrap some tape around the plug and she is good to go. It's been like this for two years now without a problem.

My car is a 92, not sure if the 96 is the same. The relay is on the inner fender well right in front of the battery. There are two of them right next to each other. I think I disconnected the one nearest the engine, but I can't really remember. I figured I had a 50/50 shot, if I were to of got it wrong, I would of just switched.
