1993 - Rattle from trans/cats?
Wierd sound from my 93 which starts a few seconds after the engine is started, there is a rattle which can be heard from the trans/cat area but not sure which one of the two it is yet. Doesn't matter what gear it's in (even in drive rolling - the rattle is still there and seems to go away when driving at speed? or it cant be heard over the engine)
Car has done 38k miles (64,000km) and as far as im aware the trans has never been serviced/replaced. Unsure on trans fluid but it looks topped up (running while in park)
Doesn't seem to be any issues with it going through gears in drive - it's an automatic, i think the TH700R4 transmission?
Anyone run into this before? it doesn't sound like it could be coming from the block, but it's a possibility... anything i should check first up?
Did give the exhaust a look over and can't see any leaks or crack.
Start it. Climb under it, and using a steel rod/bar (like a socket extension, for example) touch it to the cats, trans and other areas...place one ear against the other end of the rod. When you touch the rod to the device that is making the noise, it will be obvious (LOUD).
