So I've been rebuilding an 85' z51 code by code slowly but surely and I've gone through each of the GM manual steps like you guys always say....I've arived at an impasse code 33 this is my final code and so far my most challenging. The ecm is sending the same voltage read out that the battery is storing. Is there any reason for this other than bad burn off or bad ecm??? Thanks guys. And I love this forum
Error code 33 has nothing to do with burnoff (actually not completely true because you could fail the burnoff test if the connection is open). The burnoff test is only done when the ignition is switched to off.
Error code 33 is most often caused by a bad connection between the MAF and the ECM. The most likely cause is a corroded pin in the MAF connector. You could have a broken wire or other wiring related issue.
Using a scanner to find out what MAF voltage the ECM is seeing is the best way to troubleshoot this problem.
Thanks Cliff I'll try reading return voltage. The real problem lies in the reference voltage at the maf connection the manual states that a reference of no greater than 6v should be seen I've rewired all the way from the a-b connection at the ecm to the maf and still way over voltage.... I get that the burnoff probably isn't responsible so thanks for that I'm happy I don't have to find one
