Pinion Input shaft seal replacement
Get a new pinion yolk while your at it. The seal cuts nice grooves into the yolk. You can get one without the dust shield and press on your old one if you have trouble finding one with it. I did that when I did my rearend. May save a few bucks too. Make sure the place gives you a yolk with that is threaded for the U joint bolts. Use blue thread locker on the U Joint bolts.
The nut on the pinion is 1 5/16". You can rent a 34 cm metric socket from Autozone but it will beat up the bolt if you use an impact ratchet. The torque is 250 ft lbs. Be sure to use red thread locker on the pinion nut if you reuse it. The rearend fluid may drain out when you remove the nut. I did mine when it was empty so I don't know if will drain out like other rearends do.
If you decide to change the trans output shaft seal. Go to NAPA. The other places will give you the wrong part for the six speed. Be sure and clean and lubricate the driveshaft yolk that goes into the trans even if you don't change the seal. Be prepared for fluid to drain out of the trans even after you drain it. That back section holds enough to make a nice mess if your not expecting it.
