Slack in rear diff
I was changing my rear wheel bearings, because the car had a whining sound when driving a speed. When turning sharp left it dissapered so i assumed it was the left rear wheel bearing.
It seems like that also has seen better days.
When i was in there i decided to check the u-joints. Intially because i tought that there was som play in them. I was able to rock the driveshaft back and forth in the rotation direction. I was able to move it 1-2 mm back and forth. So my question, is this normal? If not, what could it be?
Kind regards
Dennis

You might hold the pinion firm and do the same back & forth with the tire/wheel and observe/listen at the differential.
Did the bearings correct the "whine"?

I experienced this when holding the drive shaft, then i am able to rock i sligthly back and forth in the rotation direction.
Car is a 1994 six speed.
