First post and a new Vette owner. I've been lurking around here for a few weeks, trying to get a feel for the forum and I like what I've read. You all seem like a great an helpful group of people. I look forward to adding my part in the future, for now I have a question. I was doing some of the basic maintenance on the car (the previous owner seemed to have missed a lot of that) and one of the things I bought and was looking to replace is the PCV valve. I bought one of the Haynes manuals to help me out when I got stuck and it didn't help at all. Can someone point me in the right direction here? I found a tube that went from the TB to the valve cover and pulled off both ends and found nothing. I feel like I'm missing something really obvious and I just don't want to start taking things apart looking for it, unless I have to.
Thanks, for the response. The hose that goes into my valve cover, under the fuel rail cover, slides into a rubber grommet on the valve cover and the PCV that I got from the parts store doesn't fit in the grommet, or into the end of the hose for that matter, there is nothing in the grommet, in other words I haven't found the existing one to replace, even by pulling the hose completely off. I guess I was kinda afraid to try and force it to work in there without an example to go from. I was kinda thinking that it might be in the TB somewhere, but didn't want to go ripping things apart without an idea of where I'm headed.
Do you think I may have the wrong part? The parts store guy looked it up for me and everything else that I got that day fit well, so I just assumed that it was the right one.
The PCV valve on the LT1 is actually on the intake. Pull the drivers side fuel rail cover and you will see a rubber hose (middle of the intake) that comes from the intake and make a u-turn and heads right back into the intake. The left side of this hose has the PCV valve attached.
You may want to consider buying a Helms manual ($75-$100) for your year Vette. They are worth their weight in gold if you are working on your car a lot. I have a Haynes manual, I think I glanced at it once.
Thanks, that was the info that I was looking for. I'll probably get a better manual in a few months. I'm still recovering from the inital purchase so as soon as I can get some spending cash I'll be putting it towards those.
