Whenever I roll up my driver side window it goes too high. If you do not recognize this and shut the door, then the glass will slam against the body. Is there a way to fix this myself or would this require a trip to the dealership ? Is it easy to get into the door panels ?
I had this problem too! My window had damaged the weatherstrip on the top and it only costs about $75. Not bad for a piece of rubber??? I suggest you contact Jerry Watts at the National Corvette Musuem or at jerry.watts@aol.com and he can describe how to adjust this. I searched for this information and only found it at NCM in Bowling Green, KY. I did this adjustment some months ago and cannot recall the detalis such that I could describe them to you! Regards :)
All that has happened is the window stop inside the door loosened and slid up a little. That's the easiest window adjustment there is. It's much harder to pull the top rear lip of the window outward but there's adjustments for that too.
I learned from an old Vette guy who buys old junk C4's (if there is such a thing) and parts them out on eBay.
Take the door panel off. The window up stops are on the top part of the door. You'll see the 10mm bolt that anchors them. If you loosen the bolt it will go up or down. Do this so you can see how it works and where it hits the window mounts. Roll up the window to as high as you want it to stay. Then loosen the bolt on the stop and slide it to the window mount. This is what stops the window from going up too far. Tighten the bolt. There's a stop for the front of the window and one for the back.
I know I'm not explaining this very well but once you have the door panel off it's easy to see what you need to do. If you are any sort of mechanically inclined, that is.
I replaced both door glasses in mine. I was surprised to find that GM in the great wisdom have a rod that the front of the glass riudes on via a plastic felt clip. Here's the wisdom part. The plastic clip is held on by a 10mm bolt and a wash nut. If you losen the nut the washer spins. The cool part is if the clip is broken like it was in mine you can get the whole piece out at once. To get the waher nut off put neddle noed pliers in the holes and unscrew with a 10mm socket on the other side. (By the way the used thread lock at the factory so you'll have to get on it a bit)
The clip cost 10 bucks at chevy. Install it after you get the glass in the door. I was not impressed by the engineering in the door at all :nonod:
Both sides on my 95 vert went up too high in the front. This caused the top REAR corner of the glass to touch the metal edge on the rear seal when closing the door. I found the front plastic slide that runs on the previously mentioned rod was broken on both sides. I guess they get brittle with age. $10 each from Chevy, for replacements and all was fine again with no other adjustment.
