When I pulled the hub that was the first thing that I noticed - no key! I looked around this morning and can't find one. It would seem that it would fall right on the big crossmember. Still I don't find it there. I guess it is time to go to the dealer. I hope they have one in stock.
LT1s don't even have the slot for the key? That is strange. The LT4 does and I just bought a key for it from the dealer. They listed it as a normal part. I just did not see one when I pulled the hub from my car.

Thats odd because I have had two LT4 hubs with no key. You can pull the woodruff key off of the crank and get one that is full size to replace it - well I know you can get the key but I don't know if the stock crankshaft has place for it. I had to make my own version when I went to the stroker callies crankshaft.
I found out that the hub is not made to use a key even though the crank has a second slot for it. That is what was confusing me. I thought I lost the key because I saw the slot in the crank with noe key. So the crank only has one key and that is for the crank timing gear.
It has been 10-15 years since I have done this much engine work so I am real rusty!
Yeah, the crank has a slot for a key...but there is not one machined into the hub. When I replaced my hub a couple months ago I had a keyway machined into it...I might decide to put a supercharger on it later so the key would be nice for a little extra strength so the hub doesn't spin. It cost me 55$ to have one machined in...if you have the time you might as well have it done.
