Just about got this thing ready to fire-up, but guess what happened? I stripped my oil pan drain plug, what can I do, I tried an over sized screw, but it leaks. Help......
I had a stripped oil pan bolt as well and what I did was I ran a tap by hand and re threaded the pan hole and used a new screw of the same size and it worked perfectly. It depends on how bad the hole is stripped but usually a tap can do the job.If not,tap the hole for the larger size bolt. You really wont get alot metal shavings(most will fall out as you tap slowly in and out) in there and when youre done, pour a quart oil through the valve cover and let is push anything in the pan out into a drain pan.Ive had no problems doing my cars this way.
HTH.
:)
Found mine on my car was the same way when I went have have mine changed for the 1st time when I purchased my car. Somebody had put some rubber junk plug that did not seal worth anything.... I wasted the $70.00 at the dealer for the mobil one oil I had to just dump when I got home as it was so far gone I could not rethread it. I went to the parts house and got and oversized self threading plug and then just put alittle teflon tape on the threads and I have not had a leak since.... I have changed it everytime with no problems, I just get the teflon tape and tighten it up and no leaks..... Hope this helps....Only way to really fix is to get a new pan...
I'm not so sure you should of used teflon tape. Not trying to flame you, I'm sure it helps it not to leak. But it also gets shreaded a bit and I wouldn't want that stuff in my oil system. The filter should catch it, but if it made it's way into a bearing you could get big problems.
