On my 94, I replaced the original Opti with an MDS because getting it wet would cause a no start condition. Before I replaced it I was also getting a Check Engine light and throwing code 36, which is "Distributor Ignition System" (Faulty High Resolution Pulse or Extra Low Resolution Pulse Detected).
Now after the change, I still occasionally get a 36, but no operational or performance problems that I can detect. Not sure yet, but it seems to happen when the engine is hot.
Since the Distributor connects to the ECM, could the ECM be causing this code? I know it could, but is there any history of this happening?
I've reseated the four connectors on the ECM and cleaned the Engine to frame grounds in the engine compartment.
look at the harness from the opti I belive the purple and white wires are the high res wires.clean the ground to the icm and make sure it has the proper thermal grease

Thanks, from what I can tell, it looks OK.
Another tidbit though, when this happens the engine RPM rises, just like you would tap the gas pedal for an instant. immediately the check engine light comes on. This was another symptom that occurred as a reason why I replaced the Opti.
