Just bought a 96 LT4 and the roof panel rattles when driving over bumps. I notice that there are no rubber grommets or gaskets on the mounting fittings. Am I missing something?
It could also be that the brackets are not tightly attached to the windshield (that was the case on my car). remove the plastic trim on the inside of the windshield and there are a couple of torx screws per bracket that you should check.
Mine rattle sometimes if I had to make just 1miles and put roof on with 2 screws only
So I would assume that you have some screw no well tighted...
Take a look
Thanks for the response. The roof bolts are fully tightened. I will check the windshield brackets next. Thanks for the great advice. I also ordered a kit with some thin pads for the corners that is supposed to prevent rattles and squeaks. We'll see if that's needed. Mine seems to be rattling from the back of the panel, not the front. Thanks again everyone for your responses. This is my first Vette. I have other classics but this is something new for me, and it is far more sofisticated than our '68 Cutlass and '77 town Car.

same here, I tightened all the mounting brackets back up snugly and all screws etc inside car, it is dang near rattle free now. Mine is a 86 with 96 top and brackets.

I had the same issue with my 96 CE... Found that the prior owner had only attached the roof with the front (2) torx screws, once I installed the (2) rear torx screws I had no more rattle.

When you tighten the bolts, do you tighten the rear bolts first? This is necessary to be sure the roof is positioned properly before tightening the front bolts.

I have remembered a thing that can help you
Rear Roof bolts, (two that you have to untight with racket in order to pull of panel) must have something like a nylon washers. This washer is inside roof panel holes and if you completely remove bolts from panel these washers could be lost.
Without these two washer panel could rattles
