Seems like gremlins have moved into my car. I have a 92 with an LT1 and a 6 speed manual. Last week I was chasing a no crank issue, now the car cranks but won't start. Had a friend sit in the car to crank it while I checked out what was going on under the hood. Every now and then while cranking you'll hear a hiccup that sounds like the engine is trying to "catch" and when cranking stops the engine very clearly fires one or two cylinders backwards (can see the serpentine belt change direction, exhaust comes out through the throttle body).
The car ran normally 2 weeks ago, prior to the intermittent no-crank issue, and I have not messed with the spark plug wires since. The car has an MSD opti (new coil and wires done same time) with about 5000 miles on it so I really hope it's not bad already. Besides the expensive and annoying to replace distributor, what else could it be? Could the no-crank and running backwards be connected somehow?
