I'm going to change the oil on my Dana44. Should I use one bottle of posi additive or two? Also, what oil should I use (weight wise), and should I stick w/ the dino oil or go synthetic. How much oil do I need?
I'll be using a plunger/suction type pump & will do it when the rear end is hot (try to get the sludge suspended). Anybody have words of wisdom?
I would go synthetic. Mobil 1 Amsoil and Redline all make good 75W-90. I believe all 3 of these have the additive already in them. You might get some chatter in the posi without some extra additive. I know if you go with Red Line you will have to use there Posi additive due to GM not mixing with there base stock. Amsoil I am not shure and Mobil 1 will mix with GM additive. I used Mobil 1 without any extra additive and have no increase in rear end noise.
I use Mobil 1 with one bottle of additive. Mobil 1 doesn't have the additive, I've replaced the diff fluid in my Impala and found out the hard way it needs two bottles ;)
I believe Royal Purple doesn't require limited slip additive.
Their "Max-Gear" oil does say that limited slip additive is already mixed in.
I just put some of this in my ZF-6 and DAYUM!!! This thing shifts like a completely different transmission! Definite improvement! :yesnod: I'll be using this in the differential next...
