Is there any way to disable the ASR, or at least reverse having to turn it off everytime you start the car? I would rather not completly disable it for when my wife drives the car. Just thought I would see what options (if any) I have with this. Thanks for the info.
You'd have to train your wife to enable it whenever she drives. Wouldn't it be better to leave it as it is?
The way I figure it.. if you reverse it, IF you or your wife should "forget" to enable it, it sure could cost a bunch of $$$.. however as it is, it may be an inconvenience, but you can instantly turn it off...
I think Mojo has a video of a Yellow C5 that had it off and wound up going off the road after fishtailing back & forth..
Its your car, & your wife..;) but as for me, I sure feel better with it ON, and if its raining .. No prob.. In fact it sure has helped me on the way home from the track .. I had almost bald Drag Radials & the road was DRY, however I drove onto a WET road where it "HAD" been raining, the rain stopped but the road was still sorta "dampish" & sure enough the ASR saved me from going sideways..
Had I had it (ASR) disabled or reversed I'd have never known & would have lost it for sure..
Ya'll have a good point there. It's better to be safe than sorry. Pardon the cleche. I guess I'm getting old cause I really don't hotrod around anymore. I just don't like having my foot thrown off the accelerator pedal if I feel like having some fun. I'd like the ASR to be active when she drives it, but the first thing she does when she gets in is turn it off. :nono: Do as I say, not as I do.
You can pull the wire from the motor, or just remove the whole system and replace
it with an early throttle cable.
Unfortunatly the light stays on then.
I wish it could be enabled or disabled with a key, sort of like the passenger air bags in newer cars. (However almost any key will work on them) That way if you have to have someone else drive it, you could enable it.
Doesn't the ZR-1 have a power key?
The first thing I do after starting my car, is disable the ASR..
Mine is not working anyway, along with my abs (bad wheel sensors or wire I have yet to find). When it does work, I usually disconnected the wire going into the ASR box under the hood by the brake master. This does cause the service ASR light to appear on the DIC. I generally only disconnected it when I went to the track drag racing. If I don't, I tend to forget to turn it off after each restart of the engine.
