I have used the search only to find old replies that never seemed to point to a grease that worked best. What is the preferred grease, anything new? Any tips/pointers welcome.
Use silicone grease on these parts and rubber parts too. May be labeled as dielectric grease, it's the same thing. Common treatment for weatherstripping as well.
I forgot to mention, when you asked for tips and pointers...
the poly bushings are very stiff compared to stock rubber, and the hardest part for me was pressing them into the holes at the ends of the sway bars. Greasy parts are slippery and it's a tight fit. I ended up using my large channel-lock pliers to force them into the holes and it took several tries. Once the bushings are in the holes, the metal sleeves/spacers that go inside the bushings are a little tight too but the grease helps them slide in, not as difficult as pressing the bushings.
A helpful youtube video shows the procedure (thank you Ozzstar):
I just received the large kit for my 86. They took the smaller boxed items and put them in one larger box. Thing is, going through them to inventory all the stuff, some of the smaller boxes had the packets of grease while others didn't. I would have expected all of them to have some grease but that's not what I found.
