I was looking at the Line-Loc controls in a Summit catalog and it says not to use with ASR or diag. breaking. Will these work on a 93? Also any pointers on brand, installation etc. would be appreciated.
I have the Biondo Racing line lock, and I installed it on the inside of the frame rail. I haven't had any problems with mine. Just make sure that you bleed the brakes after you are done with the install.
I reinstalled mine from the '92 and into the '94. It is a Biondo as well (inexpensive and you don't pay for parts you don't need). I took it up to Autozone and got all the fittings, extra line, and wiring relay that I needed for installation. Mine sits right under the brake master.
I don't know if your flares are the same as a 89. Mine are "bubble" flares and metric. do not buythe install kit from summit. I learned that the hardway.
I forgot about the metric part.
I just went down to a brake supply place and bought a short fline with the 2 bubble style fasteners on it, cut in half and used 2 hydraulic line compression fittings. Hyd fiittings are desinged to take 3K psi, so no worry there.
I have Hurst on both of mine and I used the installation kit with no problems.
Since nobody else answered, it works with ABS since when the line loc is engaged, your foot isn't on the pedal, so the computer doesn't know you are activating the brakes.
You would think it would sense teh brakes being applied in front and not in the rear, but since the rear brake pads are not engaged, the spinning wheels are not noticed(or something like that).
I have the solenoid mounted under the master cylinder on my '93 and on my '95 I have it mounted to the frame near the drivers side footwell.
You'll need a flaring tool either way, the lines need to be double flared.
One other question, and pardon my ignorance on this topic, (never had a line-loc before) but where are you mounting the switch inside the vehicle. Also I seen where Vette 92 is using a relay with his. Is this being done due to the current draw of the line loc?
Frank, didn't you have a problem with the Hurst line lock? I thought I read where one of yours was not working.
I installed my button up next to the center air vent. This allows easy access to the button when strapped in and it keeps it away from where it could be accidentally activiated (such as in the cup holder). I already had a small led light installed there from the previous owners aftermarket alarm which I have since removed. I reused a small momentary button from an aftermarket alarm that I had from a prior alarm I had purchased. I painted it black and left the red plastic tip on the end.
As for the relay, I use relays for any electrical activation because I use the same power source for a lot of activation buttons and I do not want to overload the wire by powering the device off the same power lead. I actually have a relay activated by the accessory lead in the center console which in turn is used as an activation power lead for all of my added toys like the line lock activation, nitrous, bottle heater, nitrous purge, and electric water pump.
