hi,
(sorry for my english!!)
i have a 84 crossfire 4+3 manual speed. i drove bout 8000 miles with it - no problems. then it started to stop suddenly when i was not on the pedal (like standing on the traffic light) the mechanic here told me it´s the incection motors. he replaqced them (700 €) no she runs again - but:
after starting the engine changes between 300 and 2500 rpm.. - and stopps suddenly. it gets better when she´s at normal temp. but still, if im not on the accelarator the rpm jumps up and down - and the engine stops running.. aslo during slow speed (very unpleasant..:-)
i gues it has something to do with these new motors - but now they tell me it would be nesacerry to change the whole wiring...
i think germany is the wrong country to find a corvette pro.. - so maybe someone on these forum can provide some help - or maybe someone from germany.. - i just do not want to pour money into some moron who has less clue bout my vette tahn i have..
I think the motors you are talking about are the IAC (idel Air Control) motors...correct? I doubt they needed replacing just cleaned and reset. I hope he used the correct methoid to reset the motors. The pinicals (the piece that sticks out of the motor) should be one and one eighth inch. 28.575mm (I think) Here is a PDF file for adjusting the motors. (you need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it) http://www.crossfire.homeip.net:81/tech/iac.pdf Adobie >> http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html
Carbs are good. But you will lose all the benefits or EFI, such as gas milage, tuning ability, etc. I think a carb is a good idea for someone who cant reach their power goal with the injection system they have. If you read around at www.crossfire.webhop.net I think you will see what i mean.
:-)) thanks
does that really work? - i mean thats a solution that can be done "easily"?
it can definetly be done(i did it). you will have to buy a carb, intake, fuel press reg, fuel line, various gaskets, drop base air cleaner, fuel press guage, throttle bracket.....i have a detailed articl i can mail or fax you if you want? drop me an email.
I don't think your mecanic is very used to the Corss-Fire injection system.
The fuel injectors usually don't go bad. Did you check fuel pressure? it could be a bad fuel pump. It could also be a sensor problem.
This is the site with people that knows how to make youe engine work again: http://www.crossfire.webhop.net/
That site has german members too.
You have to register to get access to the site.
I wrote a free scanner software that works on the 84 Corvette: http://winaldl.webhop.net/
This will help you find bad sensors and the cause for your problems.
Everyone keeps saying you have to register to view the site. Where do I register. Evertime I try to open it, it gives me the page cannot be displayed message.
