Default '94 HVAC Air Box question

Are both the heater core and the evaporator mounted inside the HVAC air box or just the heater core (and, if the evaporator isn't inside the air box, where is it in relation to the air box)? I've looked at my parts microfiche and FSM and can't find the answer. Many thanks! John

heater core is under the dash and the pass side airbag.

The evaporator is on the engine side of the firewall. Look below the right front corner of the windshield and you'll see the blower motor, the evaporator is right behind it.

Here's a pic for reference. Taken through the hole after the blower control module was removed. My '86:

The evaporator is in the lower left corner. The heater core is next to the hinge of the (rusty) temperature blend door.

Thanks for all the replies. As I said I was trying to figure it out with my head under the dash and these two images from my parts microfiche

and

and now see how it all matches up. My concern, and I assume the concern of other folks who have tackled the heater core, is replacing the heater core may not be enough as the the heater box may need to be rebuilt or at least the blend door checked and painted with Rustoleum (since no new ones are available) as the rust in Cliff's picture shows. Any thoughts on the latter?

Thanks again! John
