Re: [Nitrous]: Good forged piston design? (scorp508)
If you limit yoursef to a 150 shot, I would suggest SRP pistons. If you go higher than 150, look to J&E. (Yes J&E does own the SRP line)
A couple other good brands are Weisco, Ross, or on the cheaper end, TRW. I think TRW is having manufacturing problems right now because a lot of their pistons are on back order. They are comparable to SRP, but I would choose SRP over TRW.
- Inverted dome shape utilizing radius tooling (NO HOT SPOTS)
- Symmetrical valve reliefs for universal installation
- Valve reliefs cut for oversized valves and most street/strip camshafts
- High silicon alloy for tighter piston to wall clearance
-.927 x 2.750 x .150 straight wall carbon steel wrist pin provided
-1/16 x 1/16 x 3/16 ring widths
-Lower ring lands and thicker crown for increased durability
-Oil rail support included
4.030" Bore
3.750" Stroke
6.000" Rod
397 Grams
-16cc Dish Dome
1.125 Comp HT
10.4:1 CR w/58cc Chambers
Price, $525
Plasma Moly Rings are $139 for them.
I was looking at the J&E Nitrous Series dome pistons earlier, but did not see anything that came in a 4.030" bore and 3.75" stroke.
I ran SRP pistons in my 396 before melting them. They are good pistons for making good power and light Nitrous loads (150 or less).
You may have to contact J&E directly to find out if they have a piston for your application. I am sure they do. Mine came out of their master catalog and are not listed anywhere on the net that I could find. I rebuilt with J&E.
Re: [Nitrous]: Good forged piston design? (scorp508)
Afer reading this it sounds like the SRP pistons are no better then the stock cast psitons if you cant put more then 150 shot on them and that is not right we have used 250 shot on SRP pistons with out problems.
