I just did the water pump not more than a month ago and I am suspecting it is failing again. True, I did get a reman pump and I should be quartered for doing that, but it was $24. Here is what I think it is doing...
-Whistling/whining noise noise coming from around the h20 pump area when the engine is cold
-Coolant temp has been slightly getting higher and higher the last week while idling (even while it is cool outside)
-Coolant temp will drop 1-2* if I rev the engine for a moment
-No coolant loss (yet)
-No obvious signs of coolant leak
-2 month old Gates Serp belt appears to be stretched. The hash on the tensioner is beyond the |----------| area.
-Tensioner pulley bounces a bit while idling
So what do you think? Bad h20 pump, tensioner, belt, or a combination of a few things? TIA.
Vettenoob, just an absentee guess, but your serpintine belt should not be loose. When you use the word "stretched", it means to me that it is not tight on the pulleys, and may be slipping. A remanufactured water pump should not pose a problem. The only reconditioning involved is replacement of the bearing, and shaft, if it is worn. Is not a hi-tech re-build. Check to be sure your belt is the correct size. Your tensioner should not "bounce" at any speed, so find out why that is occuring.
