SLP Air Intake
I have a 93 40th anniversary triple ruby red convertible (stock LT1).
I was thinking about purchasing an air induction system sold by SLP Performance. PART # 21028. Apparantly it adds a little more horsepower over the stock air filter box set-up. Anyone have any experience with the SLP air induction system? Is it worth the $$? Anyone have any negative experience with this set-up? Thanks.

I have one of the early ones that was made by K&N. They later sold it to SLP.
I think it is a good setup with filters that will last forever by cleaning and re oiling and it looks good, but don't plan on much if any hp gains.
Most tests I have seen on it show slight gains of about 3 hp. Hard to tell if that is real or within the measuring capability of the dyno. Some tests show the pressure drop across the stock and the SLP "claw"/K&N triple. The SLP/K&N does perform better with less pressure drop due to the filter.
I bought a '94 that had one. When I was going to sell the car I kept it and put the stock one back on. The first day driving with the stock cleaner, I noticed it wasn't running quite as well. It is hard to say whether that was due to the air cleaner or not.
Overall, If you like the look and minimal hp gains for a lifetime air cleaner it can be worthwhile. If you are after hp, it is too expensive for the gains.

Looks cool, sounds good, but doesn't do much for you.

Even though it looks like it won't flow much, the stock air cleaner system is capable of flowing enough air to meet the needs of your stock engine. You'd be wasting your money at this point. You wouldn't be able to detect any gains with it on the car SOTP and minimal, if any, on a dyno.

It's a "hot air intake". No better than stock. Grab a K&N Panel filter for you stock housing, save ~$200, and experience the same "gains"...basically nothing.

You will be better off with THIS. Cost me 2HP, IIRC over no filter. Ran on a dyno with the stock air box that is cut out and it was about a 4HP drain, this was 2 and the control test was with no filter. That is something you WILL NOT want to run on the street unless you are really fond of your engine rebuilder.
Edit: Whoops. You don't have an L98 so I'm not sure but I think it might fit if you have the oval TB but the problem is the MAF..

You have a stock car, the piece you mention is "flare" Bolt-on. It's fine. If it added 10hp (it does not) you won't feel it. It looks and sounds cool it is what it is, an air filter. If you were doing a dyno battle you have more options. I bought mine off a guy with a 93

Negative. Stock unit doesn't pick up air off the road. The stock unit (and the SLP "Claw") both draw under hood, stagnant air. The filter may be way ahead of the engine, but it's isolated from the outside air by the hood, radiator shroud, front bumper, etc.

I forget since I threw it out. I can see that his picks air up off the road but does the stock system get air from under the hood with the air forced in as it goes over the road? I know the radiator has to be cleaned because of the trash buildup from the road but I only owned the stock air system for a couple hours before I tossed it.
