A/C Compressor Replacement
Hi Everyone,
My AC compressor was making a lot of noise so i finally bit the bullet and bought a new one from Rock Auto. Its a Denso.
Anyway, the instructions are not too clear in regards to whether it has Oil in it or not. It does suggest that i poor the oil out of the compressor into a measuring cup, and to do the same to the old compressor and compare the amount of oil in each.... I guess this implies that the new compressor does have oil but what if my old compressor was leaking.... how would i know how much oil should be in the new compressor?
The is my first AC job, any experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

I could be wrong, but i'm thinking the FSM list all AC components, and the amount of oil required for each piece/part. BTW, what year?

Most compressors for older cars are not shipped with oil because they don't know if you are using R12 or R134a refrigerant. They use different types of oil. Make sure you use the correct type and viscosity refrigerant oil.
