Default What Can I Remove?

Hey Guys,

I'm currently putting back together my TPI intake on my 80 Camaro. The engine is from a 1986 Corvette (iron heads)

What can I remove from the engine to clean it up? I am removing the EGR valve, and the charcoal canister and such. I am also looking to remove the AIR pump and accessories.

I do not need to worry about emissions, and this is not going to be a daily driver. Just the occasional cruise, and jaunt along the country roads.

I know that I have the option of tuning the PROM so that it does not negatively affect the computer, and drive-ability.

I'm sure there are people who do not see the point of doing all this, as I have read many threads about removing the EGR and the process.

I am just looking to clean up the engine bay as much as possible.

If anyone has any recommendations, or has done this before, I would like your advice.

Here is a pic of where it stands now. I plan on doing as much as I can with the wiring. Its an absolute mess!

Loose the air pump. $135 will get you a replacement pulley that will open the top end up for you. And I would get some wire looms for the spark plug wires. I am doing all this now on an '86 l98 that is going into my '78 C3.

Before I had taken apart my intake, I ran as many wires as possible under the intake. Such as the fuel injector wires, MAF wires, and the several wires that ran to the alternator.

Cleaned it up a bit, and took them off the side of the valve covers

Sounds like you're on the right track. I have an 85 corvette with that same air pump bracket, and I deleted it by making a bracket with a small idler pulley and shorter belt. Looks much better. You will need to delete the EGR in the prom to prevent the code from setting.

I'd keep the egr, it helps in keeping spark knock down.

I was actually thinking about building a bracket like that. Do you haveany pictures? How did you do it?

I was thinking about that, but i run 94 octane in it all the time, and I'm thinking that should keep it pretty safe, it still has the stock CR
