Default 84-89 radiator dimensions?

So, I'm actually building a turbo C5, but I happened to see a picture of an aftermarket radiator for early C4 and after looking up its dimensions, it's a little shorter vertically, which might be just what I'm looking for. The only question I have is, could somebody measure the distance between the lower radiator hose outlet (passenger side) and the top of the radiator? It looks like a lot of of the height difference between the C5 and C4 radiators is at the bottom, below the lower radiator hose, which wouldn't be as beneficial. Thanks!

'84 - '90 radiators aren't the same. '84 - '89 stand vertically in the package and the '90 is "laid back" in the car and is the same as all later years.

Decide which you'd like to compare or make sure what someone is mentioning for dimensions that they measured.

You would do better with dimensions provided by DeWitts and you could likely provide them with the specific dimensions you're concerned with. Use their images and just edit it with lines "where to where".

If a factory spec aluminum radiator has the outlets in the wrong place they can be modified to your needs.

Had the outlets changed on 2 radiators for track cars.

Find a guy that is good with a TIG welder.

Good luck.

I got 10-3/4" on my '86 replacement radiator from AutoZone. I don't know how close that is the stock radiator.

I agree with Cliff on 10 3/4 or so. My stock '84 heavy duty cooling radiator (out of the car) measures a little over 10 1/2 inches from the top of the radiator tank to the top of the lower radiator hose fitting. I'll bet tolerances on this dimension are not all that tight.

Thanks guys! That's the same as I measured on my C5 radiator, so I guess the height difference between the two is all below the lower radiator hose. That means I will need a custom lower hose if I want to use the C4 radiator. Might as well just get a generic Griffin then.

Put it on paper and if you want the Griffin let them do the plumbing. If there's a hose that ideally does the function you'd like they (I'd think could) accommodate you, height/placement in the tanks is likely critical for circulation in/out.
