This is my son's 89 corvette TPI 350 We just changed out the valve covers. What a pita. The reason we changed valve covers is it had thin chrome plated valve covers that blew oil out thru the oil fill plug and both pvc valve gaskets. It leaked oil down on the exhaust manifolds since we have had it and it burns off the exhaust and smokes and smells. We bought some used valve covers that are a mottled gray color and are similar to or are stock. We had to take half the top of the engine apart just to get the old ones off. I am glad it has hydraulic lifters because if I had to adjust solids it would take half a day to get them off and back on again. Bottom line it does not leak any more. No more burnt oil smell or smoke.
Now at my test drive when I point the nose up hill it stumbles a couple of times and sometimes it throws a check engine light then it goes back off. Could it be a plugged fuel filter and if so where is it. My son told me he thinks it is a bad map or maf sensor. I am not up on these computer controlled engines. I could use some suggestions what to look for.
I would think it might be a pluged fuel sock off the fuel pump easy fix. fuel filter is on the pass side above the exaust not so easy.
is the fuel low when this happens?
how old is the o2 sensor?

I dropped the exhaust and rebuilt the top end including having the heads rebuilt but never seen a fuel filter above the exhaust Is it in the engine compartment or under the body? I have never checked the codes but my son took it to a mechanic and was told the Map or mas sensor under the throttle body was bad. if you cross the two wires does it just throw flashes of light to count with a test light or does it show up on the dash somewhere?

Yes. Did you even watch the video I took the time to post for you??? It literally SPOON FEEDS YOU, how to do this procedure. I don't know how you could have the question that you just asked, had you taken the 3 minutes and 9 seconds to watch that pretty helpful vid. The Check Engine light flashes a code....each code, three times. It starts with a "Blink......Blink-blink" which is a 12...no tach signal (b/c it's not running). The the other "real" problem codes will follow.
Fuel filter is on the inside of the passenger's side frame rail, where it bends inward from the rocker rail, going forward to the front frame horns. Here is a vid of that....I recommend that you take the 1 mintue and 56 seconds required to watch it.
