Default 6 speed ?

My buddy is looking at Camaros and everyone is telling him to stay away from the 6 speed. Aren't they the same as the Vette? Is the auto a better choice in this case?

The Z-28 uses a Borg Warner T-56 tranny.
The Vette uses a Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen 6 speed.

The Vette tranny is stronger and heavier, it's also more expensive to fix when it breaks. Gear ratios are too close between the two to matter. The Borg Warner is a little bit larger but not as strong. I know for a fact it weighs a lot less.

In any case it's a fine transmission as well, the Vette is just better. If you're looking to modify the motor the auto WILL break. The T-56 will hold for quite a while longer.

the T56 is a great tranny. in fact, its rated higher than the ZF tranny. im thinking of swapping my T56 from my camaro into my vette because i dont wabt to deal with the BMW oil and dual mass flywheel nonsense. coming from a former camaro guy, DO NOT buy an automatic fbody.
