I have been away from the forum for a while for several reasons. But I'm back and trying to get back up to speed. I have a 93 that I'm wanting to put a LQ4 (2500 3/4 ton pickup motor) in. The trans is a rebuilt ZF new flywheel clutch setup. When I started this project several years ago there were several threads doing this kind of swap. I've done a search and can't seem to find them. Does anyone know where I can find them? I have spent over an hour looking. As I recall there was a guy in the Kentucky/Tennessee area that had a Black Coupe that did a really through write up on what he went through. All I have found is guys like me wanting to do this swap. Thanks! Update: I found the post I was looking for! Woohoo! I can't post a link to it from my iPad so when I'm in front of my PC I will if you can't wait the thread starts out 85 auto to 04 LS6-6 speed
A few have done what you're wanting to do, but have not written much if anything about it.
I have a 93 with an iron block 5.3L LS and a ZF6. However I got tired of forum members being rude when I shared information so I'm not going to be posting it anymore. Send a PM if you want to ask something, and can discuss things in a decent manner.
OP - Is the car a 6MT w/D44 now or is the M6 all in cartons and the car is an A4 w/D36? I believe that's important. VERY IMPORTANT.
When you're researching the "project" you want to concern yourself with only a change done to a '92+ done with an LT front suspension member. The engine mounts for an L98 (and the suspension member) are substantially different and you need to avoid all of that.
If you concentrate on the LT 92+ information you can avoid a good many situations.
I was judging from poster #3 one of the "rude" guys. I'll leave it at that.
Poster #4 is a good example of the people that are rude for no reason. Again I'm willing to share the information I have but not in a public post only PM.
If you thought I was talking about you then you are the one that decided you have been rude to me for no reason. Other then pointing to post #4 because he brought up his guilt I wont be naming anyone.

chevyowner:
i dont know the history of all this 'rudeness' about your swap thAt you claim exists but i do suspect that you lump me into that category.
im impressed about lsx swaps and those that did it should be proud of the achievement. especially the weight saved!
my post about being tired of lsx swaps wasnt meant to say that i think they are bad - theres some jealously on my part but that just shows you did a good job.
conversely i have hAd a lot of success with my boosted stock bottom end lt1 and im happy to talk about it.
i understand there can be some hard feelings (for example, i got tired of corvette off-topic people looking down upon me because i have a c4. those wounds run pretty deep.) i stopped posting there and have been a happier person (even though im opinionated at times here).
bury the hatchett! we are all c4 people here and want to help each other out because some people from the other gens dont like us. so lets like each othet and help each other out.
Guys thanks for the help. I don't know anything about the rude responses and don't want to even discuss it. Any rude posters here will be ignored. I'm just here to enjoy the car I have loved all my life. So here is where I am at, the trans has been rebuilt by Dr Z. It is a black label ZF. I have a swap specific Quick Time bell housing with a McLeod Hydraulic Throwout Bearing. The rear end in the car is a Dana 44 with mid three gears (3.4 or 3.5 something). The prototype engine is a LQ4 out of a 3/4 ton pick up. I went with this engine because I felt it most closely would replicate the it weight balance of the LT-1. Plus it offers great future potential for building up. Since the the trans is the stock trans there won't be any issues with the speedo, reverse light switch ect.. That said it just leaves the engine controls and the monitoring of same. I know that I need to use the LT-1 computer for the starter circuit and gauges. I have a Speartech wire harness and ECM which will actually run the engine it self. It also needs to monitor water, oil pressure, O2 sensors. I did purchase the engine mounts to convert to the LT brackets. So what I'm left with is the packaging issues. Will it fit with the factory oil pan, hoses and fittings for coolant lines power steering, oil cooler, heater lines, ac lines, coolant tank, exhaust system. AYNONE WITH CONSTRUCTIVE SUGGESTIONS IS WELCOME. If you have done this swap or knows someone who has please jump in. As I said in my first post this is a project I started several years ago. I had booked marked several posts but do to a computer crash I lost them and have not been able to rediscover them. I am considering starting a separate post to document the swap for others that may want it do it. If i do I'll post a note here to direct readers to it if I do.
Since you're using it seems the ZF, the D44 and the D44 C-beam you need to concern yourself with the dimension "rear edge of block" to the mounting pad for the LT suspension member, it's "different than L98" mount. It appears that some of the adapting hardware "might" provide a provision to locate regarding length but then there's the "elevation" to be concerned with. I don't believe I've ever seen a particular "off the shelf" that works. I believe I've seen threads where some have mentioned "no adapters" and using LS mounts.
I believe the install needs to be done "rear to front" if you're considering using the IRS and the ZF.
McLeod doesn't seem to offer the 1345 ZF specific any longer, I've seen this discussed elsewhere also so regarding the shim set-up you might want to make the call and discuss it before starting. I don't believe they shipped the 1345 with an "all inclusive" shim package. Do you have the 1345 ZF specific that includes the ring for the guide tube retainer or just a 1300 series bearing? Whose clutch have you purchased? Flywheel yet?
This is the McLeod 1345 with the correct hardware to bolt to the ZF. I think I have the kit and instructions on another HDD that's not in a PC currently. I'll look.
So what I'm left with is the packaging issues. Will it fit with the factory oil pan, hoses and fittings for coolant lines power steering, oil cooler, heater lines, ac lines, coolant tank, exhaust system.
The truck oil pan will not work it is too tall. I used the 4th gen LS Camaro Oil Pan.
I used the newer design water pump, and an aftermarket thermostat housing that is straight. Because of this I had to make a lower radiator hose.
For the power steering pressure use one from a C5. I used oil resistant hose and good clamps for the return line.
My car does not have an oil cooler so I don't know what you need to use one. I have also not taken the time to put the ac back on.
I used the Melrose Swap headers, and replaced the resonator with a x-pipe. This was a FlowMaster exhaust system that was on the car when I got it, and it did not need much to make it work.
