I have an early 86 coupe with stock iron heads. I want to change the cam and heads. I also want to install RR. My question is are AFR's the best way to go? I was looking at the 180cc. I see many brand names for cylinder heads, just no sure which one's to go with. I see TPIS sell Dart heads.

,
where does your engine source it's exhaust gas for the egr system ? if it sources from the head, and emissions are an issue in New Jersey (they are, even on an 86 here in California), your first question has to be "does the aftermarket head have an exhaust crossover passage?
Most, almost all do not...but there are a couple, Edlebrock and Dart(?) that do.

Thanks for the reply. Here in NJ after 25 years with "historic" plates, you do not have to go to inspection. I also removed the cats.
Before you go worrying about TPIS and what it does, what exactly do you hope these parts will do? Talk to the person tuning the car if they are a builder. They should be able to advise you which head goes with what and you will need a dyno tune so.....
