got a 1989 auto , just had the auto rebuilt again , new mufflers , tyres and using 20 W 50 engine oil ( to reduce oil leak ) . Thing is that now it wont do a burnout , when i put my foot down taking off from the lights . The mufflers cut the drone out but seemed to reduce the power . Any ideas guys ???
Did they have the distributor out when doing the trans? This allows the mechanic to tilt the engine back to get to the bell housing bolts easier. Maybe the timing is way off.
The other idea I have when I see these threads is to stop using the "PEEL-O-METER" to try to measure power. It is not accurate. If you really question the power, measure in some objective way; dyno, drag track, g-tech, etc.

just checked the timing and that's fine , also did a compression test and new spark plugs ,( the expensive ones ) the other day , cheers
Tom has a good point and in addition, tires dry out and get hard. That makes it much easier to spin them and do burnouts. Your new tires are probably much stickier and giving you much better traction - your car could actually accelerating faster even though it doesn't seem like it since you could be hooking up earlier. Run it at a local track to see what you have now.

good thinking i'll get it dyno tuned , and see where i stand after that i guess
Did they replace the torque converter with a lower stall speed version?
it was redone under warranty , and they use standard parts . trans was rebuilt 1500 miles ago . both times , third and fourth clutches went , funny enough .
