Recently had all of my 96 LT4 brake calipers powder coated, and am now in the process of rebuilding the calipers. Everything was going smoothly until the time came to install dust boot covers on front pistons. For the life of me I can't figure out how to get this done. Are there any insider tricks here that will make the job any easier? Thanks in advance!
this topic pops up every so often. it's a bit of a puzzle, but a extremely simple puzzle. i'm assuming a 96 is somewhat configured like 92 and 85 calipers - the caliper/piston/seal thing, so here a link that might shed some light - https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...e-rebuild.html
it's been about 10 years since I've done it, but even after reading the links, i'm having a tough time visualizing the procedure today. anyway, hope it helps....
I was trying the methods you guys talked about by installing on back side of pistons then putting in caliper groove. The problem I had was that the seal kept sliding back off of piston anytime I tried to put the seal lip into caliper groove. Maybe too much lube on seal? Can I get away with not lubing the under side of seals piston lips?
