I'm new here so I hope I'm doing this correctly. I am planning on using a near stock L98 in a 1965 Impala. I've searched the net over and can't find the info I'm looking for. Is it possible (or a good idea) to use an ASA cam in an L98. If so what other modifications would I need to make. The car will never be raced just a little punch every now and again. Looking and sounding good (want the choppy idle) are what's important. What other upgrades would you make?

None. To impress the rice crowd, you need to have a huge muffler, wings, neon lights, etc.
You make the cam with a choppy idle and you are going to have to make other engine modifications to make it work right unless you plan to trailer it there and back.
http://www.soundracer.se/ and a great stereo system will make their pants wet and you can still keep the drivabilty.
Not trying to impress anyone. Live far out in the sticks and keep to myself. I just want to do it my way. I'm in the planning stage and searching for ideas.

To get the cam you spoke of, you probably will need a dyno tune. IT might not work well with the stock engine so you might have to change more to get it to work efficiently. EFI has to work as a system and not just throw a part at it and make it work. People use milder cams because they don't want to get tuning. Well, the trade off is that it can't be too different from stock. I just changed intakes and headers eons ago and it seemed better but wasn't running right at other points. Took it to Lingenfelter and he tuned it to run smoothly. I don't know if a lumpy cam will work well without tuning and matching pieces. I suspect not unless you have a very high tolerance for that,
, when you change your cam the biggest challenge will be to get the engine tuned to the cam. If your out in the sticks, this might be your biggest issue.
You might be better to just add headers and go with a louder exhaust and settle for that.

To get the wannabe race car idle from the cam, do you think it will work with the heads and intake or will it choke it even more? How will the stock system take it? Will it even be drivable or just suck tons of gas and throw drivability down the toilet? Years ago, I saw someone do just that. Tossed black smoke, would only run barely acceptable on upper mid to WOT, etc.
Have you seen the soundracer clips? I would think with a decent stereo system you can sound the part without going to headers and louder exhaust. Probably cheaper and when you want to, you can shut it off.
The only fuel injected ASA Engine was a LS engine. I doubt that a pre-fuel injected ASA engine cam would idle very good or even at idle at all. The fit may in question. I would not use the ASA cam. If you want that idle thumping cam, get a mild cam compatible for the L98 and fuel injection.
First, I would try some long tube headers and Flowmasters Delta 50 mufflers. You may not get the thumping idle sound but, you will get the throtty exhaust sound.
