Default No start pace car

Hello everyone this is an update to a previous thread well so far I have.

Checked fuel pressure 40 psi so cool their.

Replaced ignition coil thought that was it but NO (look at pic I have never seen orange dust before)

Checked battery it is DEAD. Can get new one not a problem.

But here is the thing I hooked up the vette to our company's big peterbuilt 390 wrecker. To give it a jump but NOTHING so before I go crazy I want to say STARTER. Does anyone agree or have fresh idea I'm asking cause maybe I should step back and regroup.

The old lady REALLY tripped out when I. Came home with a big rig tow truck to jumpstart a vette. But it was available and why not

Under the ignition coil

😄 I deserve that when I tried to jump the car in the morning before I went to work I hooked up the vette to the charger was in the neighborhood around 2 stopped by saw that the battery was full and floating so back to work I go was getting roasted by my co worker about my situation

Just for a little insight the vette has it's own enclosed parking space at work opposite of employee parking lot.

So yes they roasted me ALL DAY

So as it was time to go home and NO vette to drive home I took the wrecker

Damn car IS gonna start tonight. So went home charger still on float so cool

Tried to start NOTHING got out and 12.1 at the battery. So lets try again. Nothing get out and 11.8 at the battery.

So that's when rage hit and the wrecker took the driveway and half the street

Hooked it up and NOTHING.

So yeah that all happend and some

Try jumping the small terminal to the large one on the solenoid and see if it turns over. If not cheak and clean connections and have the battery load tested.

Ok sounds intresting what exactly do you mean jumping large to small terminal.

And I was going to Napa anyway tomorrow so I could take that battery and get it tested

I have never been under their before. That tight huh. Wow maybe I should just replace the starter. So I won't have to deal with that again

At least the starter

Wow but what can I say haven't had a problem with her in years now she can't even start

But thanks for the help I mean that cause I am really on my own with this. Every mechanic shop in Bakersfield just wants to take the car apart THEN try to figure it out

And NO the chevy dealership isn't an option. They told me they don't work on corvettes. And told a buddy of mine they DON'T make touch up paint for corvettes some story of special chemicals in the paint

So thanks for the help I do have other cars but I miss my girl. And it is a deep burn to me that you can't just jack it up and go deep in their. It seems like the biggest part of the job is HOW TO do the job

If it is the original starter best to keep it and rebuild it. But I would look at the battery first might save you from your friends. LOL

Ok on the rebuild idea. I'm guessing their is a kit I could get at NAPA. I would like to keep her as original. As possible ( my old lady has a new BMW 850 and I HATE everything about this new tech crap)

Got any idea's on how to get it out. I was looking on you tube. And this guy dropped his whole exhaust to get to it. And the 86 shop manual doesn't really. Say it does talk about the workings. But not so much on removal.

I have a 94 no problem unless you have headers you should be ok but others that know will have to tell you. I am still hoping all you need is a battery.

Ok thanks for the help. And I hope it's just the battery too. It's like I lost a family member.

Earlier my old lady wanted to out for lunch. And when we got in the garage. I went to the vette she just stood their. I tried to start her and nothing so the old lady said lets go. And went to her car

I got out of the vette and told her HOW CAN YOU THINK ABOUT FOOD AT A TIME LIKE THIS and went back in the house😄😄

This is what a solenoid looks like mounted on a starter. The large stud is the positive battery cable. The small stud is from the ignition switch. If you jump the two studs together it simulates putting the ignition switch in the START position. When you jump the two terminals together you will get a BIG spark because the solenoid takes a lot of current. It'll make you jump.

I see love hurts right but hey I'll take one for the team. With the vette shut down. I feel like I'm leaving. The house without pants.

Today is sunday. The nfl season is over. So I'm out their all day. So she better start at least once

A little update on me and my teams progress. Yes 3 of us to get 1 corvette started.

So first of got to get the car off the ground. My friend actually had a moment of GENIUS. He brought over some 8x8 treated studs. (like what they put train tracks on). And some cart wheels to screw on 👍 So let's get the chainsaw out. And cut an approach angle

Popped the chain

Then we head to Napa to get supplies. No battery in stock. And here is the kicker. From what I understand.

They don't make starter repair kits for 86 anymore.

But they sell rebuilt and new starters for 86.

Rebuilt 46 💰
Brand new 71 💰 with lifetime warranty

So let's take the new NOT IN STOCK of course
So as you can see we are on a roll here today.
So time for lunch and make some phone calls. I mean come on this is Bakersfield. Some one has to have a battery and starter for an 86

Is it just me. Or does this happen to other people. Why must something so easy be so difficult

If they are railroad ties be careful they can have metal in them not safe for chainsaws. Block it good they can roll on you.

I think the chain popped from all that tar or oil thats all over it. And they are pretty heavy. So I figure if we use common sence. And take her slow up them we should be fine. But yeah since I'M the one going under. Maybe a masonry brick on the side won't hurt.

I'll admit he came up with a good idea. With those got them from the oilfields. He works at. But LOST all coolness points when we were at winco (grocery store) I was getting pizza's. And this man walked up to the counter. With a micro brew sampler 😲 have you EVER seen or heard of any man working on a car in his garage. Say I sure could go for a strawberry ale right now

But the good news I got a brand new DURALAST GOLD starter at AutoZone for only 67 💰. And 10 💰 of that was cause I didn't have a core replacement.
No battery yet but we are makeing a little progress.
Watch I don't even need the starter 😄

Yeah I know I feel stupid but thanks everyone for the help
