Ok so I pulled the fuel pump from the 84 today and am confused on the wires running to the pump it's broken at what I think is a resistor in the tank can this be bypassed or what is it for

If you have the tank unit/pump removed post a snapshot of it for an explanation. Mention the wire colors that are related also. That will certainly help. The level sensor is a rheostat of sorts.
I've seen this mentioned in '82 cross-fires also and it's function disputed. It is NOT included with any of the service tank units. Here's a link to an '82 discussion.
I quickly glanced at an '84 FSM and I didn't see reference to it even in am image of the tank unit. I don't doubt the comments regarding "suppression" BUT being in line I'd think it responds more like the filter in a tach lead. I may read more.
Posting the snapshot was good, there's many '84 owners that will respond likely. I'd be inclined to think that most will mention "elimination" of it. Do without!
Thanks for the links they helped a lot from what I understand it is not needed to run its just to eliminate radio interference so I believe I can just deleat it

Yep - I'd think the "delete" option certainly applies.
