Re: What does the INFL REST idiot light mean? (Joecooool)
You need to unplug the battery. Remove it. Remove the airbag fuse, wait a few minutes, 15, then unscrew the two screws that hold the airbag on and remove and unplug the airbag. Under the battery is an airbag sensor with a yellow wire bolted down to the frame. You need to remove this, clean it real good and sand the metal tabs with the bolt holes in them down until you see shinny bare metal. Also sand the frame under the sensors down to bare metal. Put some silicon GREASE on the spot on the frame. Use new bolts and lock washers and put the sensor back on. There is another sensor in the exact same spot on the oposite side of the car. You need to repeat the procedure on that sensor too. Then refer to the tech tips section on how to reset the light.

It is a lot of work. My seat belt light also stayed on because of this. I put up with it for a few years but I just had to fix it. I can't stand any lights coming on.

Don't you want Dad to have a working airbag? <woeful puppy look>
First, the Gordon book says that if you've got an INFL REST light, you should also have a SEAT BELTS light.
You can pull codes for the airbag with the short wire/paperclip trick in the ALDL connector in the driver's footwell. 12-pin connector, letters match up to holes like this (normal driving position):
F E D C B A
G H J K L M
Car off, ignition off. Jumper terminal "A" to terminal "K". Turn the key to RUN but do not start. Fans will roar to life, scaring the dickens out of you. Then the INFL REST light will start flashing codes. BLINK...BLINKBLINK is code 12, the test code. It should repeat code 12 two or three times, then flash the trouble code.
If you want, pull the code, then write me and I'l tell you what it's supposed to mean. I won't be able to tell you how to fix it, though.
