Default 1985 steering rack boot leaks

I have a Z51 1985 steering rack that is leaking into the boots from the ends. I have the rack out already and have removed the boots for inspection..

I was reading that early c4's all eventually have this problem because the aluminum rack housing wears against the teflon bushing and that it's not a simple seal replacement.

Is this true?

I would replace the end seals if anyone thinks it would make a diff. I have the repair manual with the rebuild guide. I am trying to avoid sending it off for a rebuild.

Thanks

I was entertaining the idea of one of these options as I have the same condition on my 85.

But I am thinking sending it off to turn one is going to be the answer unless someone can vouch for an Oreilys one.

You already have the hard part done, it's out. Now do it right and send it to Turn One. I'd trust that far more than some Cardone (or similar) unit.

Yeah I talked to Turn One and for my 1985, they said it would most likely need to be sleeved to repair damage to the aluminum housing from bushing wear. So I sent it in. $220 for the rebuild, plus $250 for a sleeved housing. So, not cheap but a reasonable price, and they are probably better at this than anyone else.
