Ok i went to the local track today and its a 1/8 mile. First time i have ever raced my vette, and look at my sig. it should be at least 450 hp. Well, I had to traction whatso ever, like i tried everything even rolling though the lights. I just smoked the tires in 1st and 2nd. (with 315 michelns)My best 60' was a 2.59!!!!! with a best et of 9.00. So what shoudl i do. Slicks, drag radials, suspension???
i have a 383 but its automatic. if i feather in the gas i dont spin much. if i mash it its scary. i still havent raced on a track yet (oct 11 will be my first) but ive been practicing at stop lights! :jester what if you ease out of first & mash it in second? will you hook up then?
CarTest has an interesting simulation program that looks at performance mods and their effects. It includes friction coefficients of tires, etc.
For street tires, when I ran the simulation on a Vette with 400-500 hp, the optimal launch RPM was 1200-1400 for a 6sp depending on the hp, tire size, etc. Obviously, the Vette is "traction limited" as they say with street tires.
If you want to drive to the track and be competitive with a 17" set up go with the 315 BFG Drag Radials in back and put in a line lock, assuming this is a six speed. If you do not mind changing tires, then go with a 16" ET Street set up and try and keep the launches under 3000 RPM"s. On Street tires and Nitto's I launch at idle (1000 RPM's), roll out and and hit it.
