MrWillys, is there an iron head that will fit his engine that wouldn't require major intake changes, that has 58cc chambers? Isn't that a major reason for the aluminum heads, so you can get away with higher compression ratios? If that's true, does the OP have any choice but to go with larger chambers if he wants the iron heads? He said he wanted iron heads. He didn't say anything about his quest for power. Does his engine have dished-top pistons? What size is this dish?

I'm sure you've got more answers that I do! I'm running the 993 iron heads, but I've got flat top pistons.

Not that I'm aware of unless he choses the 305 head. The Vortec would be close at 66cc. Horsepower is built by compression and not using the 113's means a piston change. I would want to know what I'm doing wrong rather than a change if I were the OP, and lowering compression is not the answer. Good eye Roy.

I want to go to cast iron heads. Any advice on what will swap over is greatly appreciated.

No, I'm not going to try the aluminum heads again.
well I used iron heads on a 345 horse Z4 crate engine clone...the crate engine used aluminum 58 c.c. heads, the heads I used were cast iron, off a 86 Chevy Caprice ex Highway Patrol car.

They also had 58 c.c. combustion chambers, an exhaust crossover for EGR (if needed, and I did) and valve rotators on the exhaust valves...damn nice heads; the only issue would be the angle of the center bolts holding down the intake manifold; all early heads used bolt holes drilled perpendicular to the intake manifold surface; on these later heads the center holes are rotated into a more vertical angle; not a big deal, but something to check.

A pair of these even junk yard, once given a valve job would be a very affordable alternative to vortec heads which have a completely different intake bolt pattern or other aftermarket heads.

Dart Sportsman II heads are really nice, but a bit pricey; they are the only aftermarket cast iron heads with a CARB exemption number and exhaust gas crossover passage.
